Privacy Policy

Cue ("Cue," "we," "us") is a tracking companion for movies, TV, anime, books, and podcasts, built by Saturn Cube. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what control you have over it. It describes the app as it actually works today — not a generic template.

1. Information we collect

Account information

• When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from that provider.
• If you sign in with email and password instead, we store the email address and an encrypted credential via Firebase Authentication.
• Every account gets a unique ID (issued by Firebase Authentication) that everything else in this policy is tied to.

Profile & library data

• Display name, handle, avatar image (if you upload one), and the genre/format preferences you set during onboarding.
• Everything you track: titles, watch/read status, priority, ratings and written reviews, collections, and episode progress.
• Activity timestamps used to compute your streaks, activity heatmap, and genre breakdown on the Statistics screen.
• If you link a streaming service or a downloaded file to a title so "Continue" can hand off to it, we store the service name/link, or the local file's name and location and your chosen player — never the video file itself. Cue does not read, copy, upload, or stream the contents of any file on your device.

Social features

• Friend requests, your friends list, and any collections or titles you explicitly share with a friend.
• Reviews and likes you post are visible to other Cue users browsing that title's review feed.

Device & diagnostic information

• We use Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics to understand feature usage and diagnose crashes. This includes device model, OS version, app version, and anonymized usage events — never your library contents.
• Firebase App Check attests that requests come from a genuine copy of the Cue app, to keep our backend from being abused.
• A push-notification token (Firebase Cloud Messaging) if you enable notifications.

Permissions we ask for, and why

• Microphone & speech recognition — only when you tap the microphone in Search, to convert your voice to a text query. Audio is processed on-device or by your platform's speech service and is not stored by Cue.
• Camera / photo library — only when you use Snap to Cue to scan a poster, cover, or screenshot. The image you select is sent to Google's Gemini API (see below) to identify the title; Cue does not otherwise access your photos.
• Notifications — only if you opt in, for things like friend requests and (in the future) streak reminders.
• File / folder access — only when you explicitly pick a downloaded file or a folder to link to a title. Cue stores a reference to that location, not the file.

2. How we use information

We use your information to: run your library and sync it across your devices; power Cue Oracle, Vibe Search, and Snap to Cue; compute your Statistics; enable Friends and Reviews; send notifications you've opted into; and keep the service secure and working. We do not sell your data, and we do not use your library or reviews to serve you ads — Cue has no advertising or ad-tracking SDKs.

3. AI features & third-party processing

Some features send data to services outside Cue in order to work:

• The Movie Database (TMDB) — search queries and title lookups are sent to TMDB to retrieve metadata, artwork, and watch-provider information. Cue is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
• Google Gemini — when you use Cue Oracle (mood picks, AI Roulette, Story DNA), Vibe Search, or Snap to Cue, the relevant text prompt or image is sent to Google's Gemini API to generate a response. Google's own terms govern how that request is processed on their side.

These requests are made from your device using a short-lived key issued by our backend; we do not separately store the content of your AI prompts beyond what's needed to show you the result.

4. Sharing & disclosure

We share information only in these cases:

• With other Cue users, but only what you choose to share — a friend request, a shared collection, or a public-to-friends review — never your full library by default.
• With our infrastructure providers (Google Firebase / Google Cloud) who host and process data on our behalf, under their own data-processing agreements.
• With TMDB and Google Gemini, as described above, only for the specific request you triggered.
• If required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of Cue, our users, or the public.

We do not sell your personal information to third parties.

5. Your rights & choices

• Export your data — Profile → Account → Export my data gives you a downloadable copy of your library, profile, and activity.
• Delete your account — Profile → Account → Delete Account permanently removes your account and associated data from our systems.
• Notifications — turn push notifications on or off at any time in Settings.
• Friends & sharing — remove a friend or a shared collection at any time; this revokes their access going forward.

If you are in a region with additional statutory rights (for example under the GDPR or CCPA/CPRA), those rights apply to you in full; the controls above are how you exercise most of them directly in-app. For anything else, contact us using the details below.

6. Data retention

We keep your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we remove your profile, library, and associated content from our production systems; residual copies in backups are purged on our regular backup-rotation schedule.

7. Children's privacy

Cue is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.

8. Security

Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest on Google Cloud infrastructure. Firestore security rules restrict every user's data to that user (and, where a feature explicitly requires it, to the specific friend it was shared with). No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.

9. International data transfers

Cue runs on Google Cloud / Firebase infrastructure, which may process and store data in regions outside your own country. By using Cue, you consent to that transfer.

10. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes, we'll update the date at the top of this page and, where appropriate, notify you in-app.
